The North American World Championship Qualifier has come to a close, and with it we leave behind the April 1st Forbidden and Limited List. For the next two and a half months we've been graced with just a few small changes, one of which is the newly-Limited status of Goyo Guardian. This generic Level 6 Synchro Monster's arguably tied for the best Level 6 Synchro ever printed, tied in notoriety with Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier. Goyo boasts a gigantic 2800 ATK, and packs a built-in grave robbing effect. The power of Goyo Guardian is well known to pretty much all duelists by this point, but what matters most is which strategies can use it best in the new format.

Six Samurai have many ways to make a two-for-one Goyo Guardian, and with the recent Semi-Limiting of Reinforcement of the Army I wouldn't be surprised if lots of competitors give Samurai a shot. Lightsworn also have a few ways to get to Goyo, namely Lumina, Lightsworn Summoner Tuned with Minerva, Lightsworn Maiden. Blackwings benefit from Goyo's return because they can Summon it as a one-for-one off Blackwing - Blizzard the Far North, threatening to gain an instant +2 off a successful attack. Lastly, a variety of fringe Synchron themes like Doppel Plants and even Raccoons can churn out Level 6 Synchros with ease.

Goyo Guardian might not be something to build an entire deck around, but there are plenty of strategies out there right now that can take full advantage of it without altering their play patterns. Those decks will be better off in this new era of competition.
