Hello and welcome to another addition of Droppin' Baums! This week I am looking at a very unique strategy that hasn't gotten the respect that it deserves, explore. Explore has been a mechanic that has always showed its face in certain decks to play an early threat or two that may gain some value with the explore, but that's about it. This deck on the other hand uses the mechanic to its fullest potential! Let's check out this list based off Tulio_Jaudy's 5-0 list. Check it out!

There is one thing I know for sure in this world and it is that Tulio is one heck of a great deckbuilder. I have trusted and respected this person's decks for the last two years and I am not going to stop now. The deck has some clunky draws, but when it can curve out its one of the most powerful decks out there!

Sideboard Guide

Mono-Red Experiment

+2 Knight of Autumn
+2 Settle the Wreckage
+2 Deathgorge Scavenger

-4 Path of Discovery
-2 The Immortal Sun

This is the reason to play the deck. We absolutely smash this matchup. When you can have a two-mana card be a "must-answer" threat in the form of Wildgrowth Walker, that is a very good sign for the matchup!

Golgari

+2 Settle the Wreckage
+2 Carnage Tyrant

-2 Kraul Harpooner
-2 Knight of Autumn

We are basically the same deck as our opponent's, except we have more inevitability with Path of Discovery and they have more power with Vivien Reid and Vraska, Relic Seeker. Unfortunately, I would rather be on the side with powerful planeswalkers!

Green-White Tokens

+2 Settle the Wreckage
+2 Knight of Autumn

-4 Path of Discovery

This is a very hard matchup. We cannot rely on our enchantments and artifacts to get the job done. They have way too many ways to deal with them in the form of Knight of Autumn and Conclave Tribunal.

Jeskai Control

+4 Carnage Tyrant
+3 Duress
+2 Deathgorge Scavenger

-2 Knight of Autumn
-2 Krul Harpooner
-3 Find // Finality
-1 Trostani Discordant
-1 Path of Discovery

This is not a good matchup at all. We really have to rely on the power of Carnage Tyrant to get us there. Not a good boat to be in with a deck with a bunch of Wrath of God effects.

We may not have had a great showing with the deck, but that doesn't mean that it isn't good. It just means maybe it isn't the time for a value deck to shine in the metagame, and that's okay! Keep this deck in the back of your head when/if the metagame becomes a bit more grindy.

Thank you so much for reading and good luck to everyone attending GP New Jersey! I will be there trying to defend my GP Title! Come and say hello!

See you next week,

Corey Baumeister
