Hello and welcome to another addition of Droppin' Baums! This week is a special one for me. Since I have started producing content I have always wanted to do some work with my brother. This week I got too do it twice! We got to focus on the very powerful deck that led Brad to the finals of GP New Jersey, Boros Angels. It is a deck full of scary mythic rares that hit the battlefield one after another until your opponent simply can't answer one of them. Let's check out this beautiful beatdown deck by Brad Nelson!

This deck did not disappoint, its threats are just so hard to deal with. The removal spells in the format just don't line up well against the creatures in this deck. Along with resilient cards we also get the joy of being able to side into a Boros control deck when the matchup calls for it. That is one of the best things about Brad's decks – you never know what deck you are going to have to play against in the post-board games. This deck is no exception.

Sideboard Guide

Golgari

-4 Adanto Vanguard
-2 Shock
-1 Justice Strike
-1 Ixalan's Binding

+4 Dire Fleet Daredevil
+2 The Immortal Sun
+2 Fight with Fire

This is a very good matchup. Having access to four copies of Tocatli Honor Guard is just not fair at all. It shuts down half of their deck! Dire Fleet Daredevil looks a little weird with Tocatli Honor Guard, but it makes sense. You have to use a removal spell to deal with Tocatli then you get to use that spell yourself.

Izzet Spells

-4 Tocatli Honor Guard
-4 Rekindling Phoenix
-2 Shock

+3 Seal Away
+4 Dire Fleet Daredevil
+2 Fight with Fire
+1 Ixalan's Binding

If you play against the version with Goblin Electromancer, you want to keep in Shock and take out a few Resplendent Angel instead. This matchup is also good. You just have way too much removal for the spells deck to fight through. Eventually they just run out of creatures and we can finish the game with Adanto Vanguard.

Jeskai Control

-1 Shock
-4 Lava Coil
-4 Tocatli Honor Guard

+4 Dire Fleet Daredevil
+1 Ixalan's Binding
+2 Fight with Fire
+2 The Immortal Sun

This matchup is not good at all. If Jeskai Control is expected to be popular at the tournament you are testing for, I would recommend not playing this deck.

Boros Angels

-4 Tocatli Honor Guard
-2 Shock
-4 Adanto's Vanguard
-4 History of Benalia

+2 The Immortal Sun
+2 Seal Away
+4 Dire Fleet Daredevil
+1 Ixalan's Binding
+2 Fight with Fire
+3 Deafening Clarion

This all comes down to who can draw better.

Mono-Red Wizards

-4 Adanto's Vanguard
-1 Ixalan's Binding
-4 Resplendent Angel

+3 Seal Away
+3 Dire Fleet Daredevil
+3 Deafening Clarion

This match is quite easy as well. You just have so many five-toughness creatures that you Overload their Fight with Fire. Stick a Lyra Dawnbringer and enjoy the ride!

Thank you so much for watching this very special addition of Droppin' Baums. This week was a very fun one for me! Next stop is GP ATL to play some Modern Magic. Come and say hi! Next week we will be looking at the deck that I choose that led me to a 73rd place at GP New Jersey, Blue-Red Spells!

See you next week,

Corey Baumeister
