Hello and welcome to another addition of Droppin' Baums! This week I am bringing you the very explosive Blue-Red Spells deck. Arclight Phoenix has arrived and ladies and gentlemen it has arrived with a vengeance! Phoenix decks have exploded into the Standard metagame and even though it's not 100 percent clear which version is the best, it is still something you should be ready to either play or play against. This version is the version I like to play. You get to be proactive, powerful and extremely explosive! Let's check out this list by christiano7.

There are two different lists you can play when it come to this deck – lists with Goblin Electromancer and list without them. I think that non-Goblin Electromancer version is a lot less vulnerable to spot removal. It is also a lot better in the mirror due to Shock being a four-of in every list. This list can put an Arclight Phoenix into play relatively easy as soon as turn three! The Goblin Electromancer build must have the 2/2 live through the turn to be able to do that.

Sideboard Guide

Golgari

-4 Lightning Strike

+1 Dive Down
+3 Beacon Bolt

Beacon Bolt mainly to kill Wildgrowth Walker and Doom Whisperer. Otherwise you can ignore it and just board in a Dive Down to dodge some removal spells.

Mirror

-4 Shock
-4 Lightning Strike
-1 Tormenting Voice

+2 Firemind's Research
+3 Lava Coil
+3 Beacon Bolt
+1 Dive Down

Basically, the mirror matchup is all about trading off threats and removal, so whoever can stick their threats around longer, wins. Preferably we only want to use Lava Coil on their Phoenix. In the end if we have more Phoenix than they do then we should be fine. The Firemind's Research helps a lot as well.

Jeskai Control

-4 Shock
-4 Lightning Strike

+3 Disdainful Stroke
+2 Firemind's Research
+1 Dive Down
+2 Beacon Bolt

Disdainful Stroke for Teferi/Settle the Wreckage/Cleansing Nova/Lyra and so on, as they have tons of powerful and expensive spells. Many of them could be game-changing, so we need countermagic. Beacon Bolt is just for Lyra/Drakes, two probably is the right number, Chart a Course and Tormenting Voice can just temporarily discard them into the bin and use it later.

Boros Angels

-1 Maximize Velocity
-4 Lightning Strike
-3 Tormenting Voice

+3 Beacon Bolt
+3 Lava Coil
+2 Disdainful Stroke

This is not a very good matchup, they have annoying creatures like Adanto Vanguard and they have tons of four-plus toughness flyers which is nightmare for us. After board they have 2-3 Settle the Wreckage as well, so we need the Disdainful Strokes here for that as well a bunch of Angels if needed. But don't waste it if we have Beacon Bolt, though. The Beacon Bolt and Lava Coil won't be able to kill all the creatures on their side but should be enough to clear the way for us to attack for the win.

As you are reading this I will be attending Pro Tour Guilds of Ravnica in Atlanta. I am beaming with excitement at the thought of playing in such a high-level event. Wish me luck, my friends. As always keep dropping those Baum's!

See you next week,
