Hello and welcome to another addition of Droppin' Baums! This week we are continuing our journey through some of the top Modern decks. Jeskai Control may not have any of the "busted cards" like Faithless Looting, Ancient Stirrings, KCI, or Mox Opal, but did you forget about Cryptic Command? The card is still a powerhouse. When you win a match with this deck you never leave the match thinking, "wow I smashed my opponent this round." Because every single game is a grind that you must earn. Most of the time I leave a match that I lost thinking, "there had to have been something I could have done to win that game," which is always a rough feeling but also means the deck has the tools to be great. It's not all sunshine and rainbows – this deck has a bad matchup against Tron. I also feel that the new hotness on the streets Izzet Phoenix is also a tough matchup. If the metagame shifts in favor of those two decks, it might not be the best choice. On the other side of the coin, if you see a lot of creatures, then it's go-time!

This is a list that was worked on by Jonathan Rosum and Benjamin Nikolich. Two absolute titans at the game and specifically this deck. Let's check out the sideboard guide sponsored by these two sickos.

Sideboard Guide

Vs. KCI

This is a great reason to play this deck. We absolutely destroy these type of combo decks. The high density of Counterspells is too much for them to handle.

Vs. Humans

Another great matchup. They play creatures. We kill them, easy as that.

Vs. Amulet Titan

This matchup I haven't personally played, but it should be a pretty decent matchup for the same reasons we are good against KCI. Counter their stuff and hope they don't have a turn-one Amulet!

Vs. U/R Phoenix

This matchup is tough. Game one is VERY hard. Games two and three I found that you have to aggressively mulligan to exile effects. If you don't have one for the first Thing in the Ice, its game over.

Vs. Grixis Death's Shadow

I think you are supposed to take the draw in this matchup. It's all about having more interactive spells than your opponent.

Thank you so much for reading everyone! Hope you enjoyed our little Modern break before Ravnica Allegiance comes out. Some say Christmas is in December, I think it is really only beginning next week! New standard coming at you very soon!

See you next week,
