Bolun Zhang made it to the Top 8 of last weekend's MagicFest Online Weekly Championship with a card no one has thought about competitively since War of the Spark.

On its own, Nicol Bolas, Dragon-God is strong. A +1 that works as a two-for-one is nothing to sneeze at. But the true power of Nicol Bolas comes from the flexibility of copying other planeswalker's loyalty abilities. Since you can't rely on you opponent having worthwhile planeswalkers, to make the most of ol' Nicol, you have to pack your own.

Teferi, Time Raveler, Narset, Parter of Veils and Liliana, Dreadhorde General have all proven their strength in competitive decks, and together they completely take over any game that goes on too long. To help get to that point, Zhang slotted plenty of discard: four Thought Erasure, two Agonizing Remorse and one Duress. With three Oath of Kaya to keep his life up and protect his unlikely team of 'walkers, Zhang proved it was a mistake to overlook the Dragon-God for so long.
