If you have been focused on the top Mythics and chase rares in Kaldheim, it's possible to overlook the depth of tribal synergies Kaldheim has to offer. I can assure you though, this is very much a tribally focused set, with some being more synergistic than others. In addition, I was excited to find that the set contains Changelings! This promises to be a very interesting set to draft, but here I would like to specifically  highlight ways to push the stronger creature types into Standard. Here are the three most important creature types in relation to Kaldheim.

Elves

Elves is definitely one of the strongest, if not THE strongest, tribe in Kaldheim. Traditionally Elves show up in Black and Green, and this set is no different. Let's take a look at some of the more important new Elf cards:

We have a big flashy planeswalker here that works with our tribe, which is a luxury other tribes don't have access to. Tyvar alone can make Elves, but the card really is going to be at its best alongside lots of small Elves, as this can allow for creating a ton of mana. While this article is focused on Standard, I could see Tyvar being good enough to play in older formats as well. Six loyalty is not that many for an ultimate. The ultimate is only going to be good in a deck full of Elves, but it's amazing if you do have lots of cheap Elves to play alongside it.

This card seems like an automatic four-of in any Elves deck. Being able to make a bunch of Elves and then have a way to pump up your creatures later is perfect. It's also only two mana! Just an amazing card all around, and one that could be good enough again, to make it into  formats like Modern or Pioneer.

This may be a case of needing to use the early Elf creatures that are available. Of course, we would prefer Llanowar Elves, but I could see Jaspera Sentinel in Standard, due to the lack of good one drop Elves that make mana.

There is some appeal to adding a snow theme to the Elves strategy, and being able to ramp into something like a Tyvar Kell makes Sculptor of Winter an interesting option.

It is a little bit of a shame this card doesn't work with tokens, but at the same time, it would be way too good if it did. It is already absurdly powerful, and you don't necessarily need any sacrifice outlets in order for it to be worth including.

This card does it all, and all three modes are extremely strong. Optimally, before you play it there is a Tyvar or Elf in your graveyard already, just in case you don't mill one.

Being an Elf that also replaces itself (likely by finding a card to put in your hand off it) makes this a pretty easy inclusion.

Giants

There isn't as much within the Giants tribe as compared to Elves. Most of the Giants are expensive, with the cheapest option starting at three mana. With that said, there are some very good Giant payoff cards. Perhaps the most interesting shift is the move away from Boros toward Izzet as the tribe's color pair of choice. Let's take a look at some of the standout cards:

Quakebringer provides a nice recurring source of damage that can close out games. The issue is, it's competing against other expensive cards that are also quite strong in a Giants deck. However, in the right deck, this card does provide inevitability, since you should be able to trigger it even if Quakebringer is in the graveyard.

This is a great card in a Giants themed deck, especially because you have Giants that deal damage not just from combat.

Basalt Ravager works well as a curve topper so that it can immediately take down a big creature on turn four. Unfortunately, since many of the Giants are fairly expensive, it actually might be better in a Wizard themed deck. That said, it's still worth considering here.

This is probably the most important card in a Giants deck. Each part of the card works really well with what you are doing. Ideally, you can play it on turn two of every game.

The Saga is competing against other expensive cards, but it is definitely quite good. If you aren't maindecking the full playset in your Giants deck, it's likely that the other copies are lurking in the sideboard to target the matchups where dealing four damage to opposing creatures is going to be strong.

This card is amazing in a Giants based deck—not just because it provides a source of card advantage, but also because it is a Giant that only costs three mana.

Glimpse the Cosmos ends up being a nice form of card advantage, as we can cast it out of the graveyard later in the game. This is a sleeper card that should end up being a staple in any Giants deck.

Angels

Ahh yes, the big white and black fliers that frequently offer lifegain as well! Everyone loves Angels, and there are a number of promising Angel oriented cards in Kaldheim. The issues become finding enough of them to round out a full deck while keeping your mana curve in check. This is a similar theme to Giants, as most of the best options are either Mythic or Rare, with a big drop off in power after that. Still, I think there is something here, and I'm excited to see which direction this tribe ends up going. You can try to build a purely Angel based deck, or pair up with another tribe like Clerics.

The flexibility of being able to Foretell Starnheim Unleashed is where the card gets its power from. It reminds me a bit of Entreat the Angels. Being able to flood the board with multiple huge flyers later in the game is a big deal.

Resplendent Marshal definitely comes with a nice tribal payoff, though it will be difficult to have lots of Angels in play in order to abuse the effect.

Both Clerics and Angels make sense in the Orzhov colors, and so does lifegain, so this card is on point. If you are able to get to seven or more life than the opponent Righteous Valkyrie goes from okay to amazing, as it does also pump itself.

I'm unsure on how relevant the hexproof from planeswalkers will be, but a nice big lifelinking Angel that also has Boast may be good enough on its own.

This card is nuts in an Angels themed deck, truly spectacular. I would have expected this to cost six mana, not four, and I believe it to be the biggest reason to play an Angels based deck.

Changelings, Other Tribes, and Wrapping Up

Kaldheim is a tribally based set, so much so that there are other tribal creature decks outside of those I have gone over in this article. I believe Elves, Angels, and Giants have the most depth, which is why I decided to cover them specifically. However, looking at my latest Angels list I actually mixed in a Cleric theme as well. Mixing two tribes that play well together like Angels and Clerics can make sense. I think other tribes like Dwarves, Warriors, Wizards, and Zombies are also worth looking into, and the list doesn't end there!

I wish there were more inexpensive Changeling cards to help tie some decks together. For instance, in both my Giants and Angels decks, it became a challenge to find creatures that were the creature type I wanted, especially for a low casting cost. Elves is definitely the deepest tribe, and I was able to fit in a copy of one of the better Changelings in Realmwalker, in that deck.

In the case of Elves, Giants, and Angels, I was able to find multiple cards already legal in Standard that play well with the tribe, which is very important in building a cohesive deck. Even a card like Emeria's Call which is good enough to see play in a lot of white decks in Standard, is even better in an Angel's theme deck. There are likely more examples of cards like this that I overlooked, and keep in mind these lists are not fully fleshed out because the set is so fresh, they are mostly for trying out. I definitely think there is plenty of power to enable these creature types though, with a lot of that power coming from the Sagas that are tribally focused.
