The newest set, product-hover id="243716" is upon us. And with it, a new, powerful, and unique archetype that has a lot of potential to become a tournament contender!

Today I'll be talking about Floowandereeze! We'll discuss what they do that makes them so good, and we'll also look at their flaws and weaknesses, so you can have a better chance at beating them.

This deck has a unique playstyle; it feels a lot like Monarchs, or the underplayed Simorgh theme. But instead of Special Summoning or having additional Tribute Summons, it wants to make multiple Normal Summons one after the other with no breaks until a Tribute Summon appears. The focus on Normal Summons makes it similar to Yosenjus. The big difference is that instead of playing out your whole hand through summons, there are 1-card and 2-card combos that recycle your cards to create more follow-ups.

It's a lot to take in.

Let's Start Off With The Monsters

It's much easier to describe what the Floowandereeze deck does by explaining all their cards and how they work together.

The deck currently has six monsters: four Level 1 little birdies, and two high-Level and high-attack birds that tower over the rest. That's it.

All the Level 1 monsters have multiple once-per-turn effects that are meant to help you Tribute Summon, by giving you an additional Normal Summon after you do something else. At the same time, they restrict you from Special Summoning.

That's one of the Level 1s' effects, and each of them have a different role beyond that. But before I continue, I'll start off with the common effects the little birds share.

If a Level 1 Floowandereeze leaves the field while face-up, it gets banished instead of going to the graveyard. You want them banished because they all share another once-per-turn ability: if you Normal Summon a Winged Beast, you can trigger the Floowandereeze's effect while banished, to get it back to your hand.

That effect is important for multiple reasons. First, it lets you search the Level 1 Floowandereeze you need, or recycle it, with stuff like Gold Sarcophagus. It also helps you chain block with another on-summon effect, since it will also trigger in that same window.

Now that you know what the little birds all have in common, I'll start explaining what makes each of them different.

Floowandereeze & Robina

Floowandereeze & Eglen

Floowandereeze & Robina is the deck's most important card and starts off the central 1-card combo. (You'll understand why it's a 1-card combo very soon.)

If Floowandereeze & Robina Normal Summoned, you can activate its effect to search any Level 4 or lower Winged Beast from your deck, then immediately after the effect resolves, you can Normal Summon a Winged Beast monster.

The card you'll usually search for is Floowandereeze & Eglen. When you Normal Summon it, you can search a Level 7 or higher Winged Beast from your deck, then immediately Normal Summon a Winged Beast.

You want to summon Floowandereeze & Robina, search for Floowandereeze & Eglen, and then search any high-Level Winged Beast to Tribute Summon it. After you Tribute Summon, you use both Floowandereeze & Robina and Floowandereeze & Eglen effects to get them both back to your hand, since they'll be banished.

Floowandereeze & Eglen isn't a 1-card combo, since you can't Tribute Summon a Level 7 or higher Winged Beast with just one monster. But it can be a 2-card combo with any other monster, or a card effect that gives you the second piece of tribute fodder.

Floowandereeze & Toccan

Floowandereeze & Stri

The other two minions are Floowandereeze & Toccan, and Floowandereeze & Stri. These cards give you a slight benefit, as well as the additional Normal Summon if you can resolve them, but they're not a starter card like Floowandereeze & Robina.

Floowandereeze & Toccan gets back any banished Floowandereeze "card", while Floowandereeze & Stri can banish any card from either player's graveyard. If you can resolve that effect, then they give you the additional Normal Summon.

Both of these birds are probably one-ofs, since they're not as important for the end goal of Tribute Summoning like Floowandereeze & Eglen or Floowandereeze & Robina.

The Boss Monsters

There are two high-Level Floowandereeze that Floowandereeze & Eglen could search for, among lots of other high-Level Winged Beasts off theme. Both of the big Floowandereeze monsters are Level 10s: Floowandereeze & Empen has 2700 ATK and 1000 DEF, while Floowandereeze & Snowl (Secret Rare) is 2900 ATK and 800 DEF.

Floowandereeze & Empen

Floowandereeze & Empen one of the key cards to start with, because it has so many amazing effects that are great when you summon it on Turn 1.

When you Tribute Summon Floowandereeze & Empen and it's on the field, your opponent can't activate the effects of Special Summoned monsters that are in Attack Position. Keeping your opponent from activating card effects they have is just as good as negating them. While that effect's limited to attack mode monsters only, it does mean that Link Monsters can't avoid this, since they can never go to defense. That means a card like Apollousa, Bow of the Goddess won't be able to negate Floowandereeze & Empen other activated effects.

That effect kicks in when Floowandereeze & Empen Tribute Summoned: you can search your deck for a "Floowandereeze" spell and trap from your deck, and of course, immediately after the effect resolves you can Normal Summon a monster. We'll get into the Floowandereeze spells and traps later.

Floowandereeze & Empen final effect is that once per battle, if it battles an opponent's monster, during damage calculation, you can banish a card from your hand; the ATK of that opponent's monster gets halved until the end of the turn.

That's big, because this card has 2700 Attack Points to start with.

So not only is Floowandereeze & Empen a floodgate that stops your opponent's Special Summoned monsters from activating effects in attack mode, it gives you a card on summon, as well as more summons, and it can essentially beat over anything with 5300 ATK or less. I guess that's how strong an Emperor Penguin should be.

Floowandereeze & Snowl (Secret Rare)

Lastly we have Floowandereeze & Snowl (Secret Rare). This one's kinda lackluster, even though it also has multiple effects.

First, once per turn while you control Floowandereeze & Snowl (Secret Rare) when it was Tribute Summoned, you can activate Floowandereeze & Snowl (Secret Rare) effect and gain three additional Normal Summons with no conditions or restrictions.

That effect was confusing to me at first, since all the little birds give you more Normal Summons anyways. But then I realized that if the game somehow gets to a stage where you can't resolve Floowandereeze & Robina or Floowandereeze & Eglen, since you have all the search targets in your hand already, then you can't get those additional summons. So I guess Floowandereeze & Snowl first effect can be good in a late game scenario. Or if you want to combo with other cards like summoning an Elemental HERO Stratos to search for another Stratos, which you'll summon to get the last one, and so forth.

Floowandereeze & Snowl (Secret Rare) second effect works when it was Tribute Summoned: while you control it, all your monsters will gain piercing damage. Cool.

Lastly, it's got an Ultimate Conductor Tyranno type of effect where once per turn, on your opponent's turn, you can banish a card from your hand to change all your opponent's Special Summoned monsters to face-down defense. That effect compliments its piercing ability, but it could have been better if you could do it on your own turn to be aggressive.

However! I realized that the last effect doesn't require a Tribute Summon to work. Which means that since it's Level 10, you can summon it with the End Phase effect of the Link Monster Simorgh, Bird of Sovereignty, if all 10 Spell and Trap Zones are empty.

Overall I think Floowandereeze & Snowl is neat, but it's probably too situational in this theme. I think that the possibility of summoning it in other decks with Simorgh, Bird of Sovereignty, acting as another form of interruption at the cost of banishing a card in your hand. Could be cool.

That's all the monsters in the Floowandereeze flock. Let's move on to the spells and traps that Floowandereeze & Empen can search for!

The Spells And Traps

Floowandereeze and the Magnificent Map is this theme's Field Spell, which makes sense, since it's a literal map! The Field Spell has two effects: one to activate on your turn, and the other can be used if your opponent Normal Summons, which will usually be on their turn unless it's a mirror match.

The first effect lets you reveal a Level 1 Floowandereeze in your hand to banish another Floowandereeze card with a different name from your deck, then immediately Normal Summon the revealed monster.

That effect not only grants you an additional Normal Summon, but also essentially helps you search for any little bird you're missing since they'll go back to your hand after you Normal Summon the revealed card. It can start your combos, searching out Floowandereeze & Robina by banishing it and re-adding it if you summon Floowandereeze & Eglen, Floowandereeze & Toccan or Floowandereeze & Stri.

The second effect gives you a Normal Summon on the spot if your opponent Normal Summons. It'll mostly be used on your opponent's turn, and will make your opponent think cautiously before they Normal Summon themselves, since it lets you play on their turn.

Floowandereeze and the Unexplored Winds is a Continuous Spell with two effects. While it's on the field, if you Tribute Summon using 2 monsters, you can instead send a monster you control and ANY one card your opponent controls to the graveyard instead. And it's still treated as a Tribute Summon.

This kind of effect is unique because not only is it similar to older predecessors like The Monarchs Stormforth or Soul Exchange. But this one is much better, with the option that you can actually send an opposing spell or trap for your Tribute Summon.

It's kind of similar to how True Draco monsters work: they can be Tribute Summoned with a Continuous Spell or Trap. The difference is that instead of tributing your own card, you can send any spell, trap, or monster your opponent has instead!

The second effect of Floowandereeze and the Unexplored Winds lets you reveal up to two Winged Beasts from your hand and return them to the bottom of the deck, so you can draw the same number of cards from the top of your deck.

This spell's definitely really cool. It helps you fix your hand if you have too many birds, or it can apply some pressure since it threatens to take a card away from your opponent if you can Tribute Summon for a Level 7 or higher.

Floowandereeze and the Scary Sea

Floowandereeze and the Scary Sea is the theme's Counter Trap card. You can activate it when your opponent would Special Summon a monster while you control a face-up Tribute Summoned monster, and have no Special Summoned monsters. You'll negate the summon, and if you do return that monster to your opponent's hand. Your opponent can't Special Summon for the rest of the turn, BUT they can conduct three Normal Summons or sets instead of just their normal one.

This card's certainly dependent on matchup. For example, it's not good in a Floowandereeze mirror match since you won't see any Special Summoning anyways. But I can see this card being pretty good in a Pendulum matchup, against a deck that relies on its Pendulum Summon and its Extra Deck toolbox.

Or to be more specific, imagine if your opponent Link Summons a Salamangreat Almiraj or Artemis, the Magistus Moon Maiden with Aleister the Invoker. You negate that and it doesn't matter how many more Aleister the Invoker they Normal Summon to get [Invocation, because they can't Special Summon for the rest of that turn.

The theme's last card is the Normal Trap Floowandereeze and the Dreaming Town. It has two effects. After you activate it on the field, you immediately Normal Summon a Level 4 or lower Winged Beast. This lets you Normal Summon on the opponent's turn, or if you somehow saved it, you can get this additional Normal Summon on your turn.

While Floowandereeze and the Dreaming Town in your graveyard and you've successfully Tribute Summoned a Level 7 or higher monster, you can banish Floowandereeze and the Dreaming Town to change all the monsters your opponent controls to face-down defense.

Floowandereeze and the Dreaming Town really good at not only extending your position, but also acts as another reliable interruption. It lets you Normal Summon Floowandereeze & Robina or Floowandereeze & Eglen on your opponent's turn, which inevitably gets you into an Floowandereeze & Empen to fetch you another card, while also meeting the condition to trigger its graveyard effect, flipping your opponent's monsters.

Now that we've summed up the entire theme, let's look at some decklists!

When I do eventually get my hands on this deck, this will be the list I'll try and start off with. Minus the Pot of Prosperity, it's going to be a pretty affordable build by the time Burst of Destiny prices settle.

Realistically, this version doesn't actually use its Extra Deck cards at all, besides banishing them for Pot of Prosperity. So you can basically play whatever you want in the extra. For all I know, it can be 15 Hero Fusion monsters and nobody would care.

I highly recommend playing Pot of Prosperity along with Pot of Duality because of how important it is for the deck to see the starter cards. You could play Pot of Extravagance over the Pot of Prosperity, but being able to find the one card you need off of your top six cards is much better than drawing two for a deck like this.

The Support Cards I'd Recommend

Since the Field Spell Floowandereeze and the Magnificent Map is another card that can create 2-card combos, I think Planet Pathfinder could be a nice addition to the deck to help make it more consistent. If you draw Planet Pathfinder along with Floowandereeze & Eglen or Floowandereeze & Stri, you can then find Floowandereeze & Robina with the Floowandereeze and the Magnificent Map!

After Setting up Floowandereeze & Empen and creating a way for you to Normal Summon on your opponent's turn with the Floowandereeze and the Magnificent Map or Floowandereeze and the Dreaming Town. You'll want to run Raiza the Mega Monarch since Floowandereeze & Eglen can search for it, and then summon it in sequence! If you tribute Summon Raiza the Mega Monarch by using two Wind Monsters while the Floowandereeze and the Dreaming Town in your graveyard, you get all sorts of effects!

First you get to return two cards back to the top of the deck, one from the field and one from either player's graveyard. Since you tributed a Wind Monster, Raiza the Mega Monarch lets you also target another card on the field, but the specific target will get bounced to the hand. Lastly, Floowandereeze and the Dreaming Town graveyard effect lets you flip all your opponent's monsters face-down. That's incredibly strong, and it's the deck's best disruption combo.

A key option in this play sequence is bouncing your own Raiza the Mega Monarch back to your hand so you can summon it over and over again. But there might be a point in the game when you just bounce your opponent's cards.

Dimension Shifter one of the most impactful hand traps in the game. If your deck can play it and doesn't mind the Macro Cosmos effect, you gotta see if you have room for it. It has a lot of synergy in this deck, since it doesn't mind the banishing effect and you can also recycle it!

If you activate Dimension Shifter, it'll usually be the only card in your graveyard. So once you're all set up and you can resolve Raiza the Mega Monarch, you can use Raiza the Mega Monarch effect to return Dimension Shifter back to the top of your deck. That way you'll draw it next turn and be able to use it again.

Barrier Statue of the Stormwinds is searchable with Floowandereeze & Robina and it can be an auto-win if it sticks on the field against non-Wind decks. You just need to protect it with another Tribute Summon play, or use Book of Moon to keep it safe from attacks.

But that's not actually why Book of Moon is in this deck. It's a fantastic addition to this strategy because it helps you dodge popular targeted effect negation when you're trying to make your combos; stuff like Effect Veiler and Infinite Impermanence. If those cards negate Floowandereeze & Robina or Floowandereeze & Eglen, the deck will struggle to build momentum.

There are lots of other cool budget options you can play with Floowandereeze, including strong trap cards like Harpie's Feather Storm, Rivalry of the Warlords, Gozen Match, or even Dogmatika Punishment. Next up, let's look at a more expensive version of Floowandereeze, showcasing what this deck can do if you include Dogmatika cards.

If you have Crossout Designator, it's pretty safe to play them in a deck like this, since you get so much reward for your Floowandereeze & Robina combo. That said, keep in mind that it's vulnerable to hand traps like Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, Effect Veiler or Infinite Impermanence.

But that's not the only set of cards that are bumping up the budget for a deck like this. The Dogmatika cards are infamously very good at helping certain strategies succeed. And in a deck like this where you don't even need to summon from the Extra Deck, they're totally viable.

One of the key synergies with Dogmatika cards, is that you can send Tri-Brigade Shuraig the Ominous Omen to the graveyard with Nadir Servant or Dogmatika Punishment while you have a banished Floowandereeze, so you can trigger Tri-Brigade Shuraig the Ominous Omen search effect.

Besides that, you play those cards like any other deck would, sending Elder Entity N'tss to the graveyard to destroy a card on the field, or sending Wind Pegasus @Ignister to spin a card later. You can just get lots of advantage off of one card.

But what do you do with Dogmatika Ecclesia, the Virtuous? Well, after you successfully Tribute Summon Floowandereeze & Empen, you can activate its effect to get a Floowandereeze spell or trap and then have the option to Normal Summon once more. This is where you'll have the opportunity to summon the Dogmatika Ecclesia, the Virtuous to get yourself a Dogmatika Punishment.

So is the Dogmatika version of Floowandereeze better? Well, you can't always play cards like Dimension Shifter, Dimension Fissure or Macro Cosmos with Dogmatika cards in the mix (and Dimension Shifter a very strong hand trap in these upcoming formats). So I think it's up to personal preference, and whatever meta call you believe is better for your area.

Final Feathery Notes

The Floowandereeze deck is easy to play and one of the more powerful themes from recent releases. It has a very simple, but very strong combo to set up Floowandereeze & Empen, and it's got follow-ups beyond that. Unfortunately since it's so linear, it can easily be stopped by all sorts of negations that can keep it from establishing a board. Besides negation and removal cards after its setup, it can lose to popular floodgates like There Can Be Only One or Zombie World.

Since Floowandereeze want to have low Level monsters banished for their follow-up plays, you can even run Artifact Lancea against this deck to keep Floowandereeze and the Magnificent Map from resolving, preventing the smaller birds from going back to the hand since they were never banished.

Would I recommend you give this deck a try? For sure! I think that while Floowandereeze is beatable, it can be pretty unfair to play against and a lot of players won't know what to do against it for at least the next few weeks. I'm sure that there could be other ways to play this deck that haven't been discovered yet, like playing strong cards that require you to have 0 cards in the Extra Deck, like The Monarchs Erupt or Domain of the True Monarchs.

If you're a fan of birds but want to play a more combo-oriented deck, then check out Anthony's latest article featuring Lyriluscs, and their new support from Synchro Storm.

There are lots of other meta-relevant cards coming out of product-hover id="243716" too, which I can't wait to showcase here on Infinite! Keep an eye on the site for the next couple of weeks, as we continue to look at the set.
