Fans of the Zendikar block, Battle for Zendikar and Oath of the Gatewatch can rejoice! The next Secret Lair drop for Magic: The Gathering has been announced: Showcase: Zendikar Revisited!

An array of the cards found in the Showcase: Zendikar Revisited Secret Lair drop.

This particular Secret Lair drop comes in either a foil or nonfoil version depending on your preferences, an improvement on previous drops (which had previously included only foil cards and were oftentimes prone to warping and curling). Consumers can expect to see iconic cards from Zendikar, Worldwake and Battle For Zendikar in this drop series.

Various themes and mechanics from the sets involved in Zendikar's setting, such as landfall, are represented in this showcase drop. Each of the cards is illustrated by a professional digital artist.

The five cards in this Secret Lair drop are iconic pieces of the history of these sets from a player perspective. These cards cater to the nostalgia of stealing an opposing creature with a Roil Elemental's landfall trigger or draining the life of one's opposition with a smattering of [[Zulaport Cutthroat] triggers. In fact, the timing of this drop coincides with the "year of Commander" and the cards are all quite popular in various decks in the most popular format that Wizards of the Coast has at its disposal.

The creatures in this drop are not limited to just Elementals, Angels and Allies, either. There is another strong reprint in this drop in the form of Warren Instigator, which is returning with new artwork, the third unique illustration since its initial printing, courtesy of Matteo Bessini. This is actually odd in that the art in Secret Lair drops were meant to showcase artists from outside of Magic, and yet Bessini has done other cards in recent releases, such as the showcase art for Ruin Crab from Zendikar Rising. That said, some other Secret Lair drops have had artists who had previously worked on Magic, such as Seb McKinnon, Jenn Ravenna and Lars Grant-West, so it doesn't set a precedent, but merely continues it.

These cards are printed in the Showcase style used for many cards in Zendikar Rising, the upcoming expansion for Magic. The cards were illustrated within a frame with a pseudo-travel guide style, lending themselves to the exploration themes of the setting of Zendikar. From a marketing perspective, this is likely meant to invoke the players' wanderlust and their desire for adventure, which may have something to do with the COVID-19 pandemic.

If you're interested in getting hold of these cards, Showcase: Zendikar Revisited will be available to order on September 25th, and will be expected to arrive somewhere between November 30th and January 15th.
