Let's face it—we've all been quarantined for a while. Chances are you're quarantined with at least one other person, and you've been trying to figure out ways to pass the time. If you've been itching to get your quarantine buddies into the best game ever made, I've designed some decks that will help you get them to dip their toes into the wonderful game that is Magic: The Gathering.
While teaching them the basic rules of the game is up to you, the idea behind each deck is to aid your teaching by exploring the different keywords and mechanics highlighted in each color. I tried to balance the power levels of the decks for maximum replay value between all of them.

The white deck is all about gaining life, but also give you an opportunity to cover vigilance, lifelink, auras, double strike, flying, and defender. Most of the cards in this deck either gain life or provide some sort of payoff for gaining life. The remaining flyers and removal spells offer the deck some reach in the late game since it doesn't have a real way to generate card advantage. New players will also get to experience activated and triggered abilities—namely, the joys of having an obscenely large Ajani's Pridemate.

Blue introduces players to counterspells, hexproof, mill effects, and scrying. The main plan for this deck is to beat down with fliers while countering key spells along the way. However, Sage's Row Denizen offers a secondary mill plan should the board stall out. Countermagic is the primary method of removal in this deck, but bounce spells and Dungeon Geists should be able to handle the threats the deck's countermagic misses.

The black deck is a vampire tribal deck that features flying, deathtouch, lifelink, exile effects, and recurring creatures from the graveyard. The fliers and removal make it easy for this deck to maneuver around your opponent's board state. I found Castle Locthwain to be too powerful and opted for Witch's Cottage instead since it seemed to be more "on theme" for the deck.

The red deck is built on the fundamentals of a traditional red deck: haste, first strike, burn spells, and one kicker spell for good measure. Most games will involve attacking with critters and finishing opponents off with some burn spells. While the late game doesn't often fall in your favor, if you're able to hit your opponent low enough the spells will easily do the rest of the damage. The instinct for newer players when it comes to red decks is that they have to constantly attack. Through repetition and maybe some swapping, this deck should help show them that there are multiple roles available to aggressive players and they are not always the aggressor in any given matchup.

Since every other deck contains fliers, the green deck has a lot of reach creatures to help it interact in combat. Castle Garenbrig didn't offer too much to this deck, so we've gone with Hashep Oasis which will allow players to learn more about activated abilities and differentiate between instant speed (Giant Growth) and sorcery speed. If you're teaching on Arena, I'd strongly consider cutting Bristling Boar for Baloth Packhunter.
While building and testing these decks, green got nerfed the most. The large creatures, fight spells, and card advantage green generated was simply too difficult for the other decks to compete with.
