Modern Masters 2013 preview season kicks off next week. There are some cards here that are starting to see some play in Modern, but the majority of sales were driven by Standard this week. Grand Prix Utrecht is this weekend with Grand Prix New Jersey close behind, and a Standard PPTQ season surely helps things. That said, as Modern Masters 2013 preview season gets underway, with our Modern States series looming on the horizon, expect more Modern cards to start to shake up this space. For now, onward and upward.

#10: Winding Constrictor

You surely already know this by now, but Winding Constrictor is the backbone of most of the black-green decks in Standard. It's nice when an uncommon sees such heavy play, and the relatively tiny profit margins make it hard for any single entity to manipulate the price. The incentive's just not there.

#9: Gonti, Lord of Luxury

Gonti, Lord of Luxury, a card that started as a Seth Manfield pet card during Pro Tour testing has become widespread tech for breaking the black-green mirrors that have become so plentiful in Aether Revolt Standard. Man, Seth is good at Magic.

#8: Kari Zev's Expertise

Kari Zev's Expertise may be Standard-legal, but it's only selling because of Modern. TL;DR version: the Expertises interact, shall we say, favorably with the Return to Ravnica-block fuse cards.

#7: Aetherwind Basker

#4: Aethertide Whale

Of course it was SaffronOlive. If two off-the-radar cards make the Top 10 apropos of nothing that happened in a premier-level tournament, it's time to dig through the SaffronOlive archives.

That deck actually looks kinda sweet. I have resolved many a Saheeli's Artistry in Limited, and it's awesome every time.

#6: Aether Hub

zzzzzZZZZZZZZZZ BORING

#5: Traverse the Ulvenwald

Like Kari Zev's Expertise before it, Traverse the Ulvenwald's enjoying a spike in sales not because of how good it is in Standard (though it is good, I promise), but because of its new role in the current Modern deck to beat:

#3: Renegade Rallier

Sam Black tried Renegade Rallier in his Death's Shadow deck and admitted that it took a little too much setup there to be effective. Oh well. I guess Renegade Rallier will have to settle for being awesome everywhere else.

#2: Fatal Push

Another ho-hum card in the vein of Winding Constrictor and Aether Hub. It's an uncommon that's ubiquitous in both Standard and Modern, and surely will be the entire time it's legal.

#1: Gifted Aetherborn

I'm not sure what's pushing the needle on this one, but it's number one this week. I'm sure you lovely folks will let me know in the comments.

Have a good weekend.
