I'm getting right into it, but first, can we talk about these Amonkhet Invocations? They don't look great, but what's the unifying theme? Mind Twist and Force of Will alongside Attrition and Divert makes no sense to me. I am putting the burden on you to explain this to me, because delegating is the sign of a true leader.

Now that that's out of the way, it's time to count down some Magic cards.

#10: Renegade Rallier

Renegade Rallier's not going to make a massive splash in Standard, but it really shines in Modern. Check out this match between Matt Sperling and Gabriel Nassif — Nassif's playing W/U Control against Sperling's W/G Collected Company deck that seems built to exploit the grind-'em-out potential of Renegade Rallier:

Start the clip at 2:24:00 to see what I'm talking about.

The W/G deck doesn't come out victorious, but the clip is a good proof of concept of how powerful a deck built around Renegade Rallier can be.

#9: Electrostatic Pummeler

Electrostatic Pummeler's here because Fling's been confirmed for Amonkhet. Makes sense to me; who wouldn't want to Fling a 36/36 Electrostatic Pummeler?

#8: Inquisition of Kozilek

#7: Path to Exile

Uncommons, not the children, are our future, and Path to Exile and Inquisition of Kozilek are two of the best uncommons to ever see print.

#5: Cryptbreaker

I know I skipped #6. Hang in there.

If zombies make a comeback in Amonkhet, expect Cryptbreaker's stock to skyrocket.

#4: Fatal Push

Whooooooa whoa whoa whoa. Fatal Push isn't number one this week? WHAT IS HAPPENING

#3: Living End

Amonkhet also heralds the return of cycling. It's hard to imagine Living End decks getting worse with Amonkhet cards; it's much more likely that the dekc will get some new goodie that it can abuse.

#6: Lightning Rift

#2: Astral Slide

By now you've probably identified a trend among this week's Super Sellers. The sales highlighted today are mostly influenced by Amonkhet. Whether people are buying Cryptbreakers in anticipation of some sweet zombie action or buying Living Ends because of the return of cycling, the common ground among most Super Sellers today is that Buyers are trying to get ahead of the Amonkhet curve.

Astral Slide and Lightning Rift are powerful cards that plainly synergize with cycling. Astral Slide in particular represents a type of card that is "the dream" for a certain kind of longtime player: it's worded wonkily enough for a new player to misunderstand it and "get got." It's not getting reprinted. Sorry, everyone.

#1: Dark Intimations

What better card to put a bow on all of our Amonkhet-inspired purchases than Dark Intimations? Rumor has it that Nicol Bolas returns in Amonkhet in some form or function; a rush on Dark Intimations is just the result of lots of folks identifying that and acting accordingly. Will Dark Intimations be a player in Standard alongside a Bolas Planeswalker? Probably not — this is a low-risk, low-reward spec that won't really move the needle and might pay off during the preview season for either Amonkhet or its follow-up, Hour of Devastation, if the Bolas Planeswalker is spicy enough.
